Vital Statistics, Health and Life
Expectancy
Bred for companionship, this affectionate breed originated in Great
Britain and gained popularity as a favourite of King Charles II.
Fully grown, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are about 30.5 to 33cm
(12 to 13 inches) in height and weigh between 5.5 to 8kg (12 to 18
pounds). Most healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels live between 9
and 11 years with proper care and love.
Personality
While this breed is prized for its sporting and fearless nature, it
is its reputation as a loving companion that has made it so
popular. In fact, it was once known as "the comforter" and "the
Spaniel Gentle," according to historical sources. Cheerful and
playful, good with children and other animals, these refined little
dogs usually enjoy being fussed over. Most are also highly
intelligent and relatively easy to train.
Grooming and Exercise
With a long, silky coat that's feathered on its ears, legs, feet
and tail, this is an elegant and graceful little dog. Its fur needs
regular brushing, although the hair on its delicate ears should be
combed gently. While active, Cavaliers are essentially lapdogs that
don't require much exercise other than short daily walks. This
makes them ideal for individuals who don't have the time or ability
to commit to rigorous exercise programs for their pets.
