Vital Statistics, Health & Life
Expectancy
Most Chihuahuas are around 15-23 cm in height, and usually
weigh-in at around 0.5-3 kg. You can expect to enjoy their company
for approximately 13-14 years.
Personality
Chihuahuas are hardy, bold and full of personality despite their
tiny stature. They are very intelligent and learn commands easily.
Early training and consistent expectations of follow-thru on
commands are essential in curbing their willfulness. Chihuahuas are
also very loving and affectionate, but without proper early
socialization, they can become overly attached and develop
unhealthy jealousies of other people and/or animals. Be patient
when housebreaking a Chihuahua, as this small dog needs time to
adjust to this new behaviour.
Grooming and Exercise
Chihuahuas are quite sensitive to cold and require extra covering
like a sweater or coat to keep them warm. They need regular eye
checks, and their teeth need to be examined for tartar build-up.
However, only minimal grooming is required for this small dog.
Although they don't need a lot of exercise, Chihuahuas benefit from
the mental and physical stimulation of a brief daily walk.
