Vital Statistics, Health & Life Expectancy
Originating in Great Britain during the 1600s, Dandie Dinmont Terriers were originally bred as vermin-hunters. Today, they're bred mainly for companionship, and can grow to around 20 to 28cm (8 to 11 inches) in height and weigh around 8 to 11kg (18 to 24 pounds). With plenty of care and regular vet visits, most healthy Dandie Dinmonts can live up to 14 years.

Personality
Dandie Dinmonts can make wonderful companions. These fearless little dogs tend to be extremely loyal to and protective of family members, including babies, so long as they're raised with them from puppyhood. Lively and fun-loving, Dandie Dinmonts can sometimes seem to have a mind of their own. Patient and loving training can help bring out the sweet, obedient temperament of this breed.

Grooming & Exercise
Dandie Dinmonts have moderate grooming needs. Their coats should be brushed at least three times a week to help prevent them from matting. While Dandies adapt well to apartment living, they do need plenty of exercise. These little dogs should be walked daily. Owners who plan to leave Dandie Dinmonts alone in yards should also be aware of this breed's tendency to dig and crawl under fences.
