Vital Statistics, Health & Life
Expectancy
Originating in Italy and dating from antiquity, members of this
noble breed can grow to around 33 to 38cm (13 to 15 inches) in
height, and weigh in at about 3 to 4.5kg (6 to 10 pounds). With
proper care and regular vet visits, most healthy Italian Greyhounds
live for about 13 to 14 years when given the proper care and
nutrition.
Personality
While most Italian Greyhounds have sweet and gentle dispositions,
they can be a bit nervous when subjected to abrupt noises and
behaviour. They're certainly affectionate with beloved family
members, but don't always care for excessive physical attention.
These elegant small dogs do best in quiet households that offer
low-key, soothing environments.
Grooming & Exercise
With fine, practically odorless coats that shed very little,
Italian Greyhounds are very easy to groom. Regular brushing is all
that's needed to keep their short fur neat and glossy. When it
comes to exercise, these are active, energetic dogs that love to
run. Owners should give them regular opportunities to let off steam
in a garden or park, or during brisk daily walks.
