Vital Statistics, Health & Life
Expectancy
Most male and female Pugs are around 25-27 cm in height, and
usually weigh in at around 5-8 kg. You can typically expect to
enjoy 13 or 14 precious years with a Pug.
Personality
If you are looking for or have chosen a Pug to be your special
friend, you'll truly appreciate their warm and winsome personality.
Pugs are usually quite even-keeled and possess a "hold down the
fort" mentality. They are good-natured and playful, but they can
also be mischievous and a tad stubborn at times, given their high
intelligence and capacity to become bored quite easily. Pugs get
along famously with other pets, young children and house guests.
However, they can also become jealous if they feel "left out". You
can always rely on a Pug for their loyal and affectionate
character.
Grooming and Exercise
You'll need to brush your Pug's fur at least twice a week, which
will aid in staying on top of their persistent shedding. You can
bathe and shampoo your little friend as needed, but keep an eye on
their muzzle, ensuring that it is both dirt-free and dry. Your Pug
may also need their eyes cleaned every other day, since your
special friend can be susceptible to dust accumulation and
irritation, if left unchecked.
Pugs can be finicky eaters so be sure to find a particular food
that they enjoy. Make sure to get your little friend moving their
body often, since Pugs generally require more workouts than other
toy dogs. When you do take your little friend out for a walk be
aware that Pugs are sensitive to extreme weather and can develop
respiratory problems in severe heat and humidity.
