Vital Statistics, Health & Life
Expectancy
The Toy Manchester Terrier, also known as the English Toy or Black
and Tan Terrier, originated in Great Britain in the 16th century.
Ordinarily, they grow to about 38 to 40cm (15 to 16 inches) in
height and about 5.5 to 11kg (12 to 24 pounds). With love and
proper care, most healthy Toy Manchesters live to about 13 to 14
years.
Personality
Toy Manchesters' even, friendly temperaments make them welcome
additions to many homes. These intelligent, observant and devoted
animals generally make good watchdogs; however, some can also be
headstrong and occasionally even snappy. This trait can usually be
counteracted with patient training, and most members of the breed
are fast learners. That said, owners should not leave young
children or small animals unsupervised with Manchester Terriers
that haven't yet been properly socialized.
Grooming & Exercise
Toy Manchester Terriers boast beautiful coats that are thick, dense
and glossy. Their smooth fur is also relatively easy to maintain,
and only needs to be brushed a few times a week with a
hard-bristled brush. This is an energetic, muscular dog that needs
to let off steam--it should be walked regularly and allowed to run
where appropriate.
