Expectancy
Most West Highland Terriers are approximately 28 cm in height, and
weigh approximately 7-10 kg. You can expect to spend approximately
14 wonderful years with your Westie.
Personality
West Highland Terriers are quite active, independent and smart.
They are full of energy and personality, making them an ideal
friend for people both young and old. Sometimes Westies can be a
tad stubborn, but overall, they are obedient and loyal. Westies
love attention and lots of play, given their high levels of energy.
They are also bold and alert, while being poised to protect. They
get along quite well with children, and can also be amiable with
other dogs when they've been properly socialized.
Grooming and Exercise
Despite the fact that Westies don't shed a lot, they do require
frequent grooming. They have a stiff outer coat that should be
brushed often. Grooming should occur at least 2 to 3 times a week,
and bathing at least once a month. You will need to take your
little friend out for daily walks or play indoors to ensure that
your small dog receives regular exercise.
